The Bible Did Not Come From the Past—It Came From Eternity

There is something happening in the body of Christ today that deserves our attention. We have more access to the Bible than any generation in history, yet many believers spend less time in it than ever before. Surrounded by endless information, entertainment, and opinions, we can easily lose our appetite for the very Word that gives life.

My prayer is that God would restore in us a deep love for Scripture—a hunger that causes us to eagerly open our Bibles again. Not out of obligation, but out of genuine desire to know the God who breathed every word.

The psalmist declared:

"My soul thirsteth for thee... in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is." (Psalm 63)

Notice the priority. In a place where water meant survival, David longed for God even more than he longed for water itself. That is the kind of heart God desires from His people—a heart that treasures Him above every earthly necessity.

When our affection for God becomes greater than our affection for anything else, we begin to discover that He truly is our source.

The Path to Loving God More

Many people ask, "How do I reach that place where I desire God above everything else?"

The answer is remarkably simple:

You get to know Him.

And the primary place where we come to know Him is through His Word.

The more time we spend in Scripture, the more our hearts are transformed. Our priorities begin to shift. Our thinking changes. Our desires become aligned with His. The Bible is not merely information—it is fellowship with the Author.

This series is a call back to that relationship.

The Greatest Misunderstanding About the Bible

One of the biggest mistakes people make when approaching Scripture is assuming that because it was written thousands of years ago, it belongs to thousands of years ago.

People see shepherds...

Fishermen...

Scrolls...

Sandals...

Ancient cities...

Deserts...

Prophets...

...and conclude that the Bible is primitive.

But what if they're asking the wrong question?

What if those ancient writers were not the true source of the message?

What if they were simply instruments?

The real Author of Scripture is an eternal God who exists outside of time itself.

The Bible may have been written in history, but it did not originate in history.

It came from eternity.

The men who wrote the books of Scripture lived in different generations, cultures, and centuries, yet the mind inspiring them transcended them all.

The Bible is not outdated information.

It is eternal revelation.

An Eternal God Speaks Into Time

Humanity is fascinated with progress.

We celebrate scientific breakthroughs.

We admire technological advancement.

We assume that newer automatically means wiser.

Yet no amount of future advancement could ever bring mankind to the level of God's wisdom.

God does not improve.

He does not evolve.

He does not learn.

He simply is.

Before there was time...

Before there was space...

Before there was matter...

There was only God.

He created time.

He created space.

He created matter.

He created every law that governs the universe.

And then this eternal God made an astonishing decision.

Rather than waiting for humanity to become technologically advanced, He chose to reveal Himself to people living in what we now call the ancient world.

He spoke to shepherds.

He spoke to prophets.

He spoke to fishermen.

He placed eternal truth into temporary vessels.

Then He instructed them to write His words down.

Think about the significance of that.

The greatest revelation ever given to mankind was entrusted to people writing on scrolls—not because God lacked better options, but because His truth does not depend on human advancement.

Why Jesus Used Simple Illustrations

Jesus continually illustrated heavenly realities using ordinary things.

Seeds.

Trees.

Sheep.

Bread.

Light.

Water.

Why?

Not because heaven is simple, but because simple illustrations make eternal truths understandable.

Imagine trying to explain modern technology to someone living thousands of years ago.

Now imagine trying to explain heaven itself.

God communicated eternal realities in ways people could grasp, while leaving truths profound enough that believers would continue discovering them generation after generation.

A Book Unlike Any Other

One of the greatest miracles surrounding Scripture is its unity.

Dozens of writers.

Different continents.

Different languages.

Different occupations.

Centuries separating their lives.

Yet one unified message.

The writers often never met each other.

Many had no knowledge of the others' writings.

Yet the Bible reads as though one mind authored it from beginning to end.

Because One Mind did.

The Holy Spirit inspired every page.

Hidden patterns, prophetic consistency, fulfilled prophecy, and interconnected themes reveal that the Author was never confined to any generation.

The Author exists outside of time.

Reading the Bible Gives Perspective the World Cannot

Many believers spend more time consuming news than consuming Scripture.

But God's Word offers a perspective no news outlet ever can.

It reveals God's plans.

It explains humanity.

It exposes spiritual realities.

It prepares believers for both present challenges and future hope.

The Bible is not simply a religious book.

It is God's revelation of reality itself.

Develop the Habit of Daily Scripture

The habit of reading God's Word changes lives.

Many believers can point to seasons where the Bible became their lifeline.

Whether in hardship, isolation, uncertainty, or seasons of great blessing, Scripture consistently feeds the soul.

Jesus declared:

"Seek first the kingdom of God..."

When God is placed first, many of the things people exhaust themselves chasing begin to fall into their proper place.

The Word forms habits that produce lifelong transformation.

The Bible Is Still Alive

Too often people conclude that the Bible is no longer relevant.

Some believe modern culture has surpassed it.

Others assume social media offers greater wisdom.

Nothing could be further from the truth.

The Bible remains alive because its Author remains alive.

It continues to speak with authority because eternity never becomes outdated.

Every generation desperately needs fresh revelation—not new revelation, but fresh understanding of the eternal revelation God has already given.

Read It for Yourself

Bible teachers, pastors, and scholars are gifts to the Church.

But they should never replace your personal relationship with God's Word.

There is tremendous value in studying Greek, Hebrew, historical context, and biblical languages.

Yet sometimes people become so dependent upon technical explanations that they lose confidence in simply opening the Bible and reading it.

Don't allow that to happen.

Begin where every believer begins.

Read it.

Meditate on it.

Think about it.

Pray through it.

Let the Holy Spirit teach you.

Jesus said:

"Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God."

The same Holy Spirit who inspired the Scriptures now lives within every born-again believer.

Teachers are valuable.

But teachers should always confirm what God has already written—not replace it.

The greatest invitation is still the simplest one:

Open your Bible.

Read it.

Know the God who wrote it.
